StonehamBank President & CEO Janice T. Houghton recently announced the bank’s support of the Stoneham Senior Center Community Open House set for Saturday, September 29th from 11am to 3pm at the Center, 136 Elm Street in Stoneham.

“StonehamBank has a 125 year history of working with and for the community of Stoneham,” notes Houghton, “and we are appreciative of the work that the Stoneham Senior Center does for Stoneham’s elderly residents. We are excited to be supporting those efforts and partnering with the Center on events such as this Community Open House.”

Stoneham’s Senior Center is a hub for locals who want to be active and engaged in their retirement years. From fun activities including exercise and dance classes, craft classes and card games, the Center also provides services and programs which impact older residents on a daily basis. Senior Center Executive Director Maureen Canova notes that 25% of Stoneham’s population (or about 5,300 residents) are aged 60 and above, and many of those folks have never been inside the Center’s beautiful facility or have knowledge of the opportunities that exist there for both activities and resources.

Canova is delighted with StonehamBank’s involvement. "We are grateful that StonehamBank continues to support the efforts of the Senior Center. The upcoming Open House on September 29th is another opportunity for the Council on Aging to reach out to the community as a whole. The goal is to educate the people of Stoneham to the various programs and resources available to not only seniors, but to adult children of seniors who want to become more informed on behalf of their parents and for themselves. We truly appreciate StonehamBank's commitment to our goals."

StonehamBank’s Personal Banker Laura Chinappi serves as President of the Friends of the Senior Center Board of Directors. She notes that The Friends of the Senior Center have been raising money for three years to support the Center. “We rely on contributions from StonehamBank,” says Chinappi adding that “without StonehamBank volunteers and generous donations, we would not be able to provide the variety of activities and services to our seniors.”
