Shred Day Set for May 11

March 1, 2013

STONEHAMBANK BRANCHES TO HOST SHRED DAY AND FOOD DRIVE ON

SATURDAY, MAY 11, 2013 IN STONEHAM AND BILLERICA

As spring fever hits and you begin weeding out  the closets, drawers and cabinets at your home, be sure to be on the lookout for confidential documents that could be used to steal your identity and  DON’T throw them away. Box or bag your items and bring them to StonehamBank’s Community Shred Day, on Saturday, May 11 from 9 AM to 1 PM in the StonehamBank parking lots of the Billerica and Stoneham branches.

“While there are lots of documents we need to keep forever, certain ones can be destroyed – for instance, canceled checks, credit card statements and old bank statements can be tossed after seven years,” notes StonehamBank Marketing Officer Joshua Mahoney.  “But, papers like these should never be just thrown away. We encourage people to destroy any sensitive documents that are no longer needed to reduce the risk of identity theft. StonehamBank’s Shred Day is a quick and easy way for folks to deal with handling of such documents, using an environmentally-conscious approach.”

“Once the paper is shredded it will be recycled,” adds StonehamBank’s Retail Services & Business Product Manager Mary Celli.  “The onsite shredding will be handled by Shred-it, a company that specializes in onsite document destruction.  Each of their trucks houses an industrial grade shredder that will destroy your documents while you watch! To further promote going green, StonehamBank employees will be on hand to educate customers about electronic statement options.”

At this year’s Shred Days, StonehamBank is also providing an opportunity to support the Stoneham and Billerica Food Pantries with donations of non-perishable grocery items.  Kim Savage of the Stoneham Food Pantry notes that the organization is servicing ”approximately 100 families with at least 6 new families each month.” She adds that most often, “families look for treats such as cereal, snacks, cookies and chips, for their children, as well as adults on limited incomes. Also, paper products, laundry detergent and toiletries including diapers in larger sizes & wipes, are sought after as they cannot be purchased with food stamps.”

The Shred Days/Food Drive will be held at StonehamBank branches at 80 Montvale Avenue in Stoneham, and 493 Boston Road in Billerica.  For more information call 1-888-402-2265 or visit www.stonehambank.com or like us StonehamBank on Facebook.
